Luigi’s Rise, Selena’s Surprise! Austin Butler’s Psycho & Chris Evans’ Nomad? + Awards Szn is back!
Vol. 1 Issue 38 – 14th December 2024
🎶Mama I’m in love with a criminal🎶
First things first, a lookalike contest was held for the masked shooter behind the assassination of a health insurance company’s CEO in New York. But after a tip from a McDonald’s worker (what happened to class solidarity?), the police finally caught the culprit. And if the Internet was thirsting over CCTV images last week, then finding out the assassin’s identity only further opened the floodgates. The 26 year old Italian-American UPenn grad is Luigi Mangione and the Gen Z attacker’s endless digital footprint has raptured everyone.
Apparently radicalised by a back surgery (validated by the numerous chronic back pain books logged onto his Goodreads account, alongside The Lorax), the computer science major was valedictorian of his high school, attended an Indian wedding, replenished food he ate from his dorm’s communal kitchen, played the deadly game of Among Us, and had contrarian political beliefs. Netizens were also quick to uncover his family history (he’s richer than the CEO he killed), his birth chart (Taurus Sun) and sexual orientation (bi), amongst other details (he’s a nerd). And of course, the numerous, objectively hot, shirtless pictures.
Writer/director Ryan Murphy and actor Dave Franco were also trending on Twitter/X as the Internet was rife with pleas for a screen adaptation of the events, but in the meantime, the first fancam has already dropped!
Mangione is currently under arrest without bail but his lawyer states that he’s received many offers from strangers to help pay his legal bills.
Hollywood happenings
Congratulations are in order as Selena Gomez took to Instagram to announce her engagement to boyfriend Benny Blanco! Bestie Taylor Swift commented that she’s ready to be the flower girl while ex Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber also dropped a like on the post. The ring itself is a subtle nod to Gomez’ song Good For You with the lyrics- I'm on my marquise diamonds / I'm a marquise diamond / Could even make that Tiffany jealous. Sweet!
Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour has finally concluded. It became the highest grossing tour of all time generating over $2 BILLION in ticket sales! Swift also gave a whopping $197 MILLION of her earnings as year-end bonuses to her crew for working on the tour. Days after the tour ended, she was also spotted spending time at a children’s hospital in Kansas City, before her 35th birthday on the 13th of December.
Austin Butler has been cast to reprise the iconic role of Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s ‘American Psycho’. The film will not be a remake of the 2000 adaptation starring Christian Bale but a new take on the original novel.
12-year-old Blue Ivy Carter stunned on the red carpet for her silver screen debut, Mufasa: The Lion King. Wearing a custom Christian Siriano gown, she was joined by parents Beyoncé and Jay Z (who maybe should’ve avoided the public eye after having been accused of raping a 13-year-old).
Chris Evans is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Doomsday. Rumour has it that the former Captain American will be playing the character of Nomad from the comics. An alternate version of Steve Rogers who renounces the Captain America mantle. Hmmmm while I was all for RDJ returning as Doctor Doom, I’m starting to fear Marvel may be banking on nostalgia a bit too hard instead of relying on a solid script. I hope I’m wrong.
First look at Cillian Murphy in 28 Years Later. The trailer for the third instalment to 28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later has also dropped.
Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, played by Aaron Taylor Johnson, has debuted with a 9% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. An even bigger flop than Morbius AND Madame Web? Jeez.
Disney has officially green lit a live action ‘Tangled’ movie!
Jeremy Allen White will voice *checks notes* Jabba the Hutt’s son in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’. Okay then.
YouTuber/Podcaster Trisha Paytas made her Saturday Night Live debut, with Paul Mescal hosting.
Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo debriefed on the viral “holding space” interview, turns out, just like us, even they didn’t know what was going on.
And the winner is…
