Watch out
It’s been announced that season 2 of The Pitt will air in January 2026 with a new season releasing every year after. The medical procedural by HBO Max has just aired the finale of its first season and has not only become a fan-favourite through word-of-mouth, but also become a quick frontrunner for the upcoming awards season with rave reviews about its performances and grit. The season covers one whole shift of an emergency room, meaning every episode is one hour of real time cases, diagnosis and obstacles. You will have a newfound respect for healthcare workers after watching this. It’s real, it’s raw, it’s a rare gem in an era of messy and inauthetic medical dramas.
Speaking of fan favourites, the latest season of Black Mirror is being touted as one of the best, reminiscent of the earlier seasons with some of the better storylines. But be warned, the dystopian, British anthology series takes it a step further in “Bête Noire”, the episode dealing with the Mandela effect phenomena, showing two different names of a fast-food chain to different Netflix users, an integral plot of the story. So if you feel gaslit after watching it, it’s because you were.
And if you’re into reality TV, a new dating show is slowly gaining traction, minus the drama and gaslighting. Love on the Spectrum explores the dating world for young adults on the autism spectrum. Wholesome and heartwarming, the kind and thoughtful gestures are unlike any you’ve seen on any non-fiction or fictional show!
Though there is something Netflix may or may not get right. The streamer has announced an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice into a series. Starring Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman, it’s not a modern retelling nor a fourth-wall breaking gimmick a la Dakota Johnson’s Persuasion, but an honest and faithful adaptation. Hmm, I do want to have some faith, but after watching what they did with Persuasion, my good opinion once lost is lost forever.
Rumour has it that the much-talked-about show Adolescence is set to get a second season. What happened to sticking to the “limited” in a “limited series”?
The real talk of the town this past week however, was The White Lotus finale. SPOILER ALERT if you haven’t caught up yet, Rick kills Jim, who is dramatically revealed to be his father. Chelsea gets caught in the crossfire and is shot at, Gaitok then kills Rick who is trying to flee with a dying Chelsea. Bad things do happen in threes. While their tragic love story stayed with the audiences, what was even more fascinating was watching the real-life actors, Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood posting pictures with each other set to Fleetwood Mac’s Silver Springs, writing cryptically about the other despite not even following each other! Co-star Jason Isaacs spoke in an interview about behind-the-scenes drama, feuds, friendships and romances blooming and breaking off, adding fuel to the fire. What happened on those sets in Thailand we may never know, but we do know that Carrie Coon’s monologue on friendship and Patrick Schwarzenegger’s wistful look will stay with us forever.
Other shows to watch currently: Wondering what happens to someone like Timothy Ratliff in The White Lotus? Who loses all their money and status? Watch Your Friends And Neighbors on Apple TV+ starring Jon Hamm. Also returning this week is the Emmy-winning comedy series starring Jean Smart, Hacks. Trust me, the age-gap mentorship dynamic between a young and zany writer and a veteran but old-school comedian has everything you want and more.
