Summer staples
Casual and laid-back will be key to ace your style game this summer. Stock up on oversized button-down shirts, baby tees, mini skirts and classic belts to create a capsule wardrobe that’s not only easy to mix and match but also very cool, literally. And tie your outfit together with a pair of tortoise-shell sunglasses. Also, to help with the soaring temperatures, consider cutting your hair down to a bob. Yes, it sounds scary, but as a self-proclaimed experimenter of all things hair, trust me, it will be liberating.
Until we MEeT again
The internet’s favourite event to critique finally transpired last Monday. Many esteemed fashion publications and amateur enthusiasts have come out with their best and worst-dressed listicles since, so I will spare you that recycled content about flowers, time, and archival pulls. Instead, here are the most talked about moments from the first Monday in May.
Indians stole the show with tech entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel wearing Iris Van Herpen, and actress Alia Bhatt wearing Sabyasachi. While Patel’s dress had mechanical butterflies with moving wings, Bhatt’s embroidered saree took 1,965 man-hours to complete and had a 23-foot-long train. Alia was also the 4th most visible attendee at the gala, garnering 7.7 million dollars worth EMV (earned media value). EMV is a digital parameter which calculates the equivalent ad spend for the impressions gained. Sabyasachi was the 3rd most visible brand, beating brands like Oscar de la Renta, Loewe, Margiela and Givenchy.
If you thought Katy Perry attended this year’s Met Gala, you were wrong, but you were not alone in thinking so. A couple of very believable AI-generated fake images of Perry were circulating on X and Instagram, which fooled many, including Katy Perry’s own mother!
Debates over whether attendees were on-theme or not broke over the internet as usual but this time, Vogue head honcho, Anna Wintour has acknowledged the confusion over the ambiguous theme/dress code and apologised!
Tyla’s sand dress by Balmain did land her in lots of best-dressed articles, alas it rendered her unable to actually walk the carpet and she had to be lifted up the stairs to get to the entrance. Talk about princess treatment.
The men were disappointing, but what’s new? However, Josh O’Connor, Mike Faist and Nicholas Galitzine were let off the hook easy, thanks to their recent projects (Challengers, The Idea of You) making them Twitter’s white boys of the month.
Haven’t you heard
Justin and Hailey Bieber are expecting their first child! The couple also renewed their vows on a beach in Hawaii.
After 110 Formula 1 Grands Prix and 16 podiums, McLaren driver, Lando Norris finally got his first win in Miami!
Oscar-nominated director, Celine Song (Past Lives) is currently shooting her next project, Materialists. The romantic-comedy stars Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.
Blast from the past- If you were active on Tumblr around 2012-2014, then you may remember the famous blog justgirlythings (sorry for the war flashbacks). Known for posting well, just girly things, she updated her Tumblr with a new post (in the classic justgirlythings format) announcing her marriage to her long-time girlfriend!
New York and Dublin now have a ‘portal’ connecting each other. The two cities have a sphere-shaped screen, in Manhattan's Flatiron District, and O'Connell Street, Dublin’s main street, with a livestream video connecting its people, in an effort to “transcend physical barriers.”
Taylor Swift kicked off the European leg of her Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday and with it, came a brand new version of her acclaimed concert. Switching up the order of her eras, wearing new costumes, cutting some much-beloved fan favourites from the set list (I will miss Long Live & tolerate it in particular) and most notably, introducing a Tortured Poets segment and performing 7 songs from the 20-day old album!

As the Kendrick-Drake feud goes on, if you’re looking for something more lighthearted, and are missing that good old boyband sound, the fictional band from the Anne Hathaway movie, The Idea of You, has some addictive songs for your consideration. The made-up band, August Moon, recorded the songs in real life (produced and written by Savan Kotecha and Carl Falk, who have previously worked with One Direction), and they’re now available to stream through the official movie soundtrack!
