Sound Off
Some addicting tunes have hit the airwaves this Friday that you’re bound to be ‘obsessed’ with. Olivia Rodrigo has released the deluxe version of her chart-topping sophomore album, Guts, called Guts (spilled), which includes five additional songs. Our favourites are So American and Obsessed!
Hozier has also released his new EP, Unheard with five songs that were cut from his last record. This includes Too Sweet, which has already debuted at #10 on the global Spotify charts and #2 on the US chart. Best believe we’ll be screaming “I take my whiskey NEEEEAAAT” throughout the day despite drinking the most sugary cocktails on the menu.
And if you’re looking for a fresh addition to your playlist, may we recommend Tere Bina by Shreea Kaul. It’s an addicting blend of Western sounds and her Indian roots.
Bejewelled
The latest IT accessory seen on celebrities and fashion girlies alike is the Bottega drop earrings. Go grab them to elevate your outfits but don’t worry, you don’t need to drop a few hundred dollars to get the sophisticated look. Thankfully, it’s a design that has been duped by multiple indie brands and on Amazon 😉
In our wishlist
Influencer and entrepreneur Negin Mirsalehi, has announced new tinted lip oils from her cult brand Gisou. In perfect shades of pinks and corals, we hope and pray it’s released in India soon!
In the meantime, what we can get our hands on quite literally is the Loccitane shea butter hand cream that the internet is raving about.
Watch Out
A lot of exciting shows and movies are going to be coming out this year, here are some trailers for you to decide your watchlist.
House of the Dragon- Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel will be releasing on 16th June. Two trailers have been released depicting Rhaenyra's ‘team black' and Alicent's ‘team green', so ardent fans can make their choice. You will be able to stream it on JioCinema.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice- The much-awaited follow-up of the 1988 fantasy-horror classic directed by Tim Burton will be in theatres on 5th September. The second instalment will see the return of Michael Keaton in the titular role along with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Joining the cast is Jenna Ortega of ‘Wednesday’ fame. A very apt choice as Ryder’s daughter in the film.
Doctor Who- The famous British sci-fi series is back! The new season introduces the 15th Doctor played by Ncuti Gatwa. Watch the doctor and Ruby’s time-travelling adventures on Disney Plus starting 10th May.
As for some ready-to-watch entertainment, Abbott Elementary’s third season is ongoing with episodes dropping weekly every Thursday. The mockumentary-style sitcom has been bagging all the awards since its inception and rightfully so. The ensemble cast hits the mark every time in its 30-minute runtime, with their unexpected punch lines, innuendos and awkward glances to the camera a la The Office.
And for the comic book fanatics, X-Men are back! X-Men ‘97 is Marvel’s newest animated series. It picks up right after the events of the original animated series that aired in the 90's and even for viewers who aren’t caught up, the nostalgia is still evident and keeps you engaged. This season will have 10 episodes with the first 2 already out. New episodes will be released every Wednesday.
Both, Abbott Elementary and X-Men ‘97 can be streamed on Disney Plus.
Hobbyists
In this day and age where we are all victims of doom-scrolling, take some time off your screen time and pick a hobby that helps you connect with yourself instead of others. Painting can be very therapeutic as it improves hand-eye coordination and at the same time, helps you tap into your creative side and run your imagination wild. And since this isn’t school, you’re free to draw outside the lines and make yourself or your loved one anything that your heart desires. Sign up for a group class which teaches you a particular art style or artwork where you paint along with the whole class step by step. Or get a paint-by-numbers or fluid art kit online for starters.
Nail your Spring Looks
Pastels for Spring? Groundbreaking indeed. Pastels and florals will never go out of style for this time of the year. You could also try a micro French manicure in electric blue, some abstract line and squiggle art or go for a plain coat of the Pantone colour of the year, peach fuzz.
Beyond the headlines
An op-ed by Jahnvvi
Formula 1 is gaining popularity by the second as more people join the bandwagon following Netflix’s docuseries, Drive to Survive. With the influx of new fans, there’s also a significant increase in the number of young, female fans. While it’s great to see girls being interested and involved in motorsport, f1 remains an uneven playing field and a male-dominated sport. Formula 1 has introduced F1 academy in recent times to enable the participation of female drivers and work to provide the stepping stones needed for them to make their way to more junior championships and ultimately Formula 1. However, this inclusivity gives away undertones of tokenism with the way the sport still treats its women, as does a section of society.
In the past year, Susie Wolff, former racing driver and the director of F1 academy had been accused of malpractice by way of siphoning key information from Mercedes team principal and CEO, Toto Wolff who happens to be her husband. The accusations were false and Susie Wolff has rightfully lodged a legal complaint towards the FIA. Now, when this news is being published, major broadcaster and publication, Sky, chose to start its headline with “Toto Wolff’s wife…” eliminating Susie’s own identity and credentials. As moves are being made for sports and the world to be more inclusive and diverse, all we can say is– do better.
