New in beauty & style
Jumping on the bandwagon, The Ordinary has entered the lip product market introducing their first ever Squalane + Amino Acids Lip Balm. Another cult favourite brand, Sol de Janeiro is adding a new fragrance mist to their line-up, the Cheirosa 76. Launching this week in the US and between now and December internationally, I just hope I can grab it before the 10-year olds at Sephora.
Blake Lively channeled her Serena van der Woodsen for the press tour of It Ends With Us, playing around with method dressing as all her outfits referred floral motifs as she plays florist Lily Bloom in the movie. For the premiere in New York, she wore a Versace dress previously worn by Britney Spears in 2002! Along with launching Blake Brown, her line of hair products (I would trust any Leo Rising sign with my hair but especially her), she is also on the cover of Vogue’s September Issue with Hugh Jackman, directed by Baz Luhrmann, which looks brilliant albeit very photoshopped!
In other news, H&M is coming out with a line in collaboration with Indian designer, Anamika Khanna. As for buildable items you can invest in to build and elevate your wardrobe this season, check out my recommended August staples below!
Winning hearts
As the Olympics come to an end, here’s what the Internet loved from the past week.
A Chinese gymnast chomping on her medal after noticing the Italian athletes with her on the podium do it is the cutest thing ever!
The gold medal winner and record breaking pole vaulter from Sweden, Armand Duplantis ran excitedly to his girlfriend in the audience not even a second after hitting the mat and everyone’s drawing parallels to the Taylor Swift lyric, “where’s the trophy? He just comes running over to me” 😭
As for another pole vaulter who stole the limelight, Anthony Ammirati from France has go viral as his crotch denied him a successful attempt 😬
A cyclist having a photo-finish win in front of the Eiffel Tower has an unmatched aura.
You can always rely on the American Women’s Gymanstic team to be the talk of social media. This video of Simon Biles clocking the camera is all over Twitter and Sunisa Lee joined the “Unfortunately I was not selected for the Olympics” TikTok trend with a video of her falling off the beam.
Bryony Page, won gold for trampolining and has studied dinosaurs (paleontology), so in short, she is all of our goals.
The Czech tennis players who were previously in a relationship but broke up to focus on their game, won the mixed doubles gold together! Who is making the movie on this??
Haven’t you heard
HBO/Max has released its slate of upcoming projects in a video. The teasers for the new seasons of The Last of Us and White Lotus dropped alongside, aaand the evident use of Hollywood’s favourite yellow filter to depict a third world country did not go amiss.
Disney’s D23 expo in underway, as of writing this issue the new projects that have been announced are Frozen 3 (with a 4th one in the works too), Incredibles 3 and Zootopia 2!

Another day, another casting announcement for a romance movie. India Amarteifio (Queen Charlotte) and Damian Hardung (Maxton Hall – The World Between Us) have signed on to star in the coming-of-age drama Into The Deep Blue. We are so back.
Charli XCX celebrated her 32nd birthday in true brat fashion. With Rosalia getting her a bouquet full of cigarettes, an ugly cake, the who’s who of young Hollywood, Glen Powell flirting with Gracie Abrams and unfocused digital camera-esque photographs to document it all.
New openers for the Eras Tour’s second stint at Wembley were revealed, including Raye, Maisie Peters and Suki Waterhouse, and the shows in Vienna were cancelled after plans of a thwarted terrorist attack by radicalised teenagers were discovered. But it is August, and the Swifties do live for the hope of it all as they banded together to sing on the streets and exchange friendship bracelets as Austrian businesses providing them with freebies to make up for it.
Blackpink’s Lisa and Rosalia are coming out with a song, ‘New Woman’!
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced. Taylor Swift leads with 10 nods, the Best Pop category proves that this is the year of girlypop music as no male singer has been nominated, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso faces huge upset as it’s not nominated for Video of the Year.
Kamala Harris has chosen Tim Walz as her running mate, and the democrats rejoiced. This led to her phone call with him (“Listen, I want you to do this with me”) being memed and Kamala HQ posting a hilarious TikTok dissing Trump with a very famous audio.
The trailer for ‘Saturday Night’ is here. A nerve-wracking look at the chaotic 90 minutes that led up to the first ever ‘Saturday Night Live’ television broadcast.
The movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel ‘It Ends With Us’ starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is finally here and while the handling of the subject matter of the book (domestic violence) and casting choices (actors much older than their fictional counterparts) always elicited polarising views, there now seems to be some drama between the cast that has become the grist for the gossip mill. Justin, despite being the director and one of the leads, has not done press with any of the actors, and was even isolated at the premiere. People were quick to notice that most of them have even unfollowed him on socials and the final nail in the coffin was this interview where Jenny Slate completely deflects talking about him.
A lot of TikTok hearsay suggests that Blake took over the creative decision-making during filming, even including her husband Ryan Reynolds in the process. Even the press tour has seen his involvement, be it a video spoof with the other male lead, Brandon Sklenar, or attending the premiere with Hugh Jackman. While it seems like good cross promotion for both movies, Deadpool & Wolverine and IEWU, many are wondering why these bits, or Lively promoting her new hair care line in the middle of this, is necessary for a movie that’s not exactly light hearted. But that doesn’t explain why the rest of the cast and the author have shunned him. In fact, Justin’s own close friend and podcast co-host seemed to have ignored him at the premiere, only raving about Lively on her Instagram stories!
While it’s fun to speculate on the drama, the conversation online seems to have taken a bigoted turn with the woman obviously being the root of the problem and the man, who has always been a nice™️ guy and played a beloved character on a popular show, can do no wrong. While the rumours circulate, the only unofficial official source has told Page Six that Baldoni created an “extremely difficult” atmosphere on set and also made Lively feel uncomfortable about her post pastrum body as she had started filming after giving birth to her fourth child. Eek!
