July 2025: Return of the summer blockbusters
July 2025 will see the release of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman and Smurfs! While Superman’s first trailer came out a few weeks back, the other three have dropped this week, take a look! PS, The Smurfs movie where Rihanna plays Smurfette, also marks her return as a singer as she has recorded new music for the movie!!
Viral moments
Onijah Robinson, a 33 year old American woman flew to Pakistan to marry a 19 year old who she had been talking to online. After being ghosted by him, her antics catapulted her to online fame as she refused to leave the country, instead holding press conferences demanding $100k and land, while giving unsolicited advice on the state of the country.

MONTOYA POR FAVOR! A cheating scandal on a Spanish reality TV show has gone viral. A man named Montoya reacted dramatically to being shown clips of his partner cheating on him. Screaming, tearing open his shirt and running across the beach, falling to his knees crying, while the host pleads “Montoya por favor!” behind him repeatedly. While it is all rather sad for Montoya, the video has all the makings of a telenovela.
Reboots and revivals
Supernatural teen-drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer is set to return with a reboot, as confirmed by Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Academy Award winner Chloe Zhao will direct it.
Rumour has it that for the X-Men reboot, Marvel is considering Sadie Sink, Harris Dickinson and Julia Butters to play Jean Grey, Cyclops and Kitty Pride respectively. While a strong cast, only time will tell if this will go through considering these are very early stages.

The poster for A Simple Favour 2, titled Another Simple Favour has been revealed. After its premiere at the SXSW TV & Film Festival, the black comedy-crime film will stream on Prime Video from 1st May, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick will reprise their roles.
The 7th season of the Formula 1 documentary series, Drive to Survive is coming to Netflix on the 7th of March so mark your calendars!

The Grammy Awards took place last Sunday. Beyonce took home the Grammys for Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year, while Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii and Chappell Roan won their first-ever Grammys. The three also did stunning performances of their nominated songs, alongside Benson Boone (no one understands when or how he became famous), while Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift (though she seemed to have the most fun in the audience, catching and wearing Janelle Monae’s jacket) were snubbed and took home 0 awards. Kanye West also showed up with wife Bianca Censori who stripped naked on the red carpet but the less we talk about that, the better. Kendrick Lamar won 4 awards and when he went up to collect one, the audience sang along to his Drake diss track, in particular the lyric, “Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A minorrr.”
After racist tweets by Emilia Perez actress Karla Sofía Gascón resurfaced online, Netflix has pulled the plug on providing transportation and styling for any awards and events for the actress. They have also allegedly halted communication with her and in turn, she has decided to distance herself from the movie’s campaign. A direct result of this has been a format change for the Academy Awards. Instead of having the ‘Fab 5’ presenters giving speeches for the acting nominees, last year’s winners: Emma Stone, Cillian Murphy, DaVine Joy Rudolph and Robert Downey Jr will be giving out the acting awards.

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that Chappell Roan is not afraid to speak up. After her speech at the Grammys calling for fair treatment and wages for small artists, music industry executive, Jeff Rabhan, wrote a guest essay for The Hollywood Reporter criticizing her and her take. Roan publicly called him out on her Instagram Stories. “Wanna match me $25K to support struggling artists? Will keep everyone updated with the much-awaited response. I will show receipts of the donations. In the meantime, here are some artists who deserve more love and a bigger platform.”
