Stand-out films at the Cannes Film Festival:
Sentimental Value- With a 19-minute standing ovation, Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value is receiving the most buzz out of any movie in the festival’s line-up. When talking about his film, the Norwegian director said, “tenderness is the new punk”.
Die, My Love- The Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson starrer received a 9-minute standing ovation, and J-Law is already said to be in contention for her second Best Actress Oscar win.
Nouvelle Vague- An homage to French New Wave cinema, the film chronicles the making of the movie Breathless.
Sirât- A critic favourite, it follows a father's search for his missing daughter in the deserts of southern Morocco.
The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo- The winner of the Un Certain Regard competition at the Festival.
Also at Cannes, streamer/producer/distributor Mubi, won out on the bidding deals. Of the 21 competition films, gaining the rights to distribute 10 of them, followed by distributor Neon, holding rights to 5 films. Mubi’s dominance comes after they distributed the body-horror, Oscar-winning The Substance last year, but if Sentimental Value wins the Palme d’Or, it would be Neon’s 6th consecutive win at Cannes.
Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars release dates have been moved up to 18th December 2026 and 17th December 2027, which means Doomsday and Dune: Messiah will be releasing on the same day.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has a release date and will be coming out on 1st May 2026!
