At its Worldwide Developers Conference this year, Apple announced quite a few upgrades that are to come with iOS 18 that will enhance and improve user experience. For starters, Apple will be integrating AI throughout its devices, called Apple Intelligence. Your apps will basically talk to each other and the device becomes intelligent enough to prioritise your notifications for you, proofread, correct your grammar and organise your life without your input. Personal assistant Siri will now also be powered by OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, allowing for a more advanced, refined and contextual output than just a few Google search results.
Users will also be able to customise and relocate the app widgets on their home screens, be able to nod and shake their heads to accept or decline calls, lock their apps while showing to someone else so they aren’t able to navigate without the primary user’s face ID, generate original illustrations much like the software Midjourney, Genmoji to create new emojis by mixing together existing ones, send a message/live location via satellite even if there is no network/wifi/battery, completely control your iPhone through your Mac, schedule messages in advance, smart script on iPad including a native calculator app that supports Apple Pencil, advance photo editing like erasing people and objects and a password manager amongst many other additions.
As Elon Musk questioned Apple about the matters of privacy and personal information with such hardcore AI integration, X (formerly Twitter) too took a step towards privacy by hiding users’ previously public liked tweets, with many confessing that they would read people’s “likes” like the morning paper and some finding an alternative of sharing their likes by manually replying or quoting tweets with a “liking this publicly” text.
